It was still so strange thinking of his sister as someone’s girlfriend. In Oz’s mind, Ada was still the same little girl who he spent all his afternoons playing with back when the only boys in her life had been Gilbert and Oz himself. As far as he had been concerned, they were the only ones she needed as long as she lived. His little sister was not supposed to developing crushes that blossomed into full-fledged relationships. No matter how he felt about Vincent courting her, it was not like he could make them stop seeing each other if he wanted to. She was free to date who she wanted, but that did not mean that Oz had to be happy about it.
Of course it had been natural for Oz to assume that Gilbert was the special someone she had mentioned in her letter to Uncle Oscar. After all, Gilbert and Oz had been the only two boys who were constantly around her and it would only make sense for her to develop feelings for Gil. Taking everything into consideration, Oz would rather have her and Gilbert together, but there was a hint of jealousy coursing through his veins at just the thought of Ada and his best friend being together. He loved them both dearly, but there was just something about thinking of them as a couple that made Oz uncomfortable; he knew that feeling was not just based on the fact that she was his sister and Gil was his best friend.
Oz listened intently as Ada began to explain how she and Vincent had even come to meet each other. Of course. He should have guessed this himself. It would only make sense for Elliot’s family to come visit him at Lutwidge, Vincent included. Ah yes, that was Ada; kind to everyone. It was almost shocking that some young man had not already tried to earn Ada’s favour. Oz did find it a little peculiar that Vincent only began showing interest, and subsequently coming to visit her, once he found out who she was, but, then again, Ada did have her own special charm that could lure anyone in. Oz just hated knowing that there were probably quite a few young men out there who had laid eyes on his sister now that she was older. If any of them had made any advances, Oz would never know; it seemed as if Ada only had eyes for Vincent.
“That’s when he what?” Oz prodded, his eyes growing wider as she trailed off as if she had said something she did not want her brother to hear. “Ada, what’d he do to you?”
Ada hadn’t expected to see her brother completely accepting of the situation right away, she’ll be the same way when she sees her brother finally courting someone like he would’ve ten years ago if his coming of age ceremony hadn’t gone the way it had. The ten year separation threw things off for them, and Oz was probably still having trouble getting used to seeing his sister as a fully grown woman; it was a vast change from the little girl that was half his size the last time he’d seen her before they’d been reunited.
Gilbert was someone special, just not in the sense that Oz had assumed him to be. Her sending him the hat had been an honest gesture of friendship, as she’d seen it while out shopping and thought of her longtime friend. It was just unlucky for Oz and Oscar that Gil had grown so attached to the hat and used it for as long as he had. It’d made both the other Vessalius’ jump to the conclusion that Gilbert was who she had the crush on.
But at least Oz was allowing her to tell him the truth instead of outright telling her no and going off on a brotherly tangent that she wasn’t allowed to date anyone and couldn’t see Vincent. But unluckily for her brother, the longer he allowed her to reminisce about previous meetings with her new beau, the more glazed her eyes looked and the wider her smile became. If it wasn’t abundantly clear how infatuated she was with him by now, it would soon enough. As Oz prodded, it brought his sister partially back to reality, but she was still preoccupied in her daydream.

He kissed me….
